Growing use of the Internet has
prompted a national youth agri
cultural safety program 10 create a
news column dedicated to helping
students and their teachers locate
safety material electronically.
The Partners for a Safer Com
munity™ program’s quarterly
newsletter recently began includ
ing the “Online” department to as
sist readers find their way through
the Internet maze. The column
provides information on World
Wide Web sites, offers helpful
hints and discusses current elec
tronic developments.
Two years ago, a National FFA
Organization survey of its advi
sers indicated that nearly one
quarter of the agriculture instruc
tors had access to the Internet. Na
uonal trends suggest the numbers
may be much higher today.
“The Internet has become in
creasingly popular as an electronic
library, reference and information
exchange mechanism,” said Julie
Sessions, program director and
editor of Partners for a Safer Com
munity. “We hope to encourage
the use of this tool to locale agri
culture safely and health mforma
uon.”
