This report of a visit to their farm along with the semi-annual association newsletter starting on Page C 9 gives readers a good synopsis of the yearly activities. Some believe the facilities in State College, which the MAEC calls home, are outdated. Then the next big event for farmers in Pennsylvania Is the state farm show in Harrisburg. A farm like the one owned by Edward and LaDonna Biddle doesn’t just happen, it takes gener ations of hard work and perseverance. Tying for the second place Pen nsylvania Dairy Herd Improve ment Association’s 1996 Herd Management Award (Pa.DHIA), Ed said he never sets out to win recognition. ”1 just believe in doing the best 1 can,” he said, seated at a solid cher ry dining room table in the cou ple’s comfortable cottage home All of us at Lancaster Fanning wish you and your family a blessed Christmas and a very good new year. $27.50 Per Year overlooking their picturesque farm. The Biddle family bought the neighboring farm in 1797 and, in 1896, another generation of Biddle’s bought the current land. Today they farm 300 acres which includes three farms and some additional rented land. Ed took the reins in 1978, and the farm, along with the Biddle family, has continued to grow. The couple has four children. Son Jim runs an Agway store located at the entrance to the farm. He contributes his expertise in dairy cow nutrition to ensure the nearly 300-head herd of Holsteins (Turn to Page A 25) 60* Per Copy
