She Is one of Joshua Hushon's entries in the Southeast ern National Brown Swiss Show. Here, Joshua holds her halter as she is named reserve grand champion of the Eastern National Brown Swiss Junior Show in Harrisburg. Pebbles has been a Bell Ringer at the state level for Joshua, and Is one of his hopes for a first national Beil Ringer. The pedi grees are easily tracked to out standing Holstein breeders in the state. The Hoslteins are for sale, because the Hushons aren’t in a position to milk. They don’t have the facilities, the time, or the desire right now to develop them. They do have a farm and a heifer bam at home where they raise their show Brown Swiss. Except for two nurse cows they keep at home to raise show calves, the rest of the Brown Swiss in milk run with Stewarts and their Hols teins, milked twice-per-day, no BST, and within the past year, eat ing a totally mixed production ration. For 12 years Dan has been doing all the artificial insemination on the farm and for the past seven years he’s been working fulltime for Cenex. Patti works part time for the Holstein Association help ing Clarence Stauffer with registrations. She also works part time at a nearby funeral home. But they got interested in Brown Swiss, and in January 1991, the Hushons purchased two calves from a Glen Rock area breeder Panda and Louisa. Louisa about died three times, Patti said. Panda was shown to 4-H districts and was named junior champion at the York Fair, since it was one of two Brown Swiss entered. Then they purchased a heifer from a Maryland farm where Dan was doing some breeding. There was one cow there that he liked and the owner said that if she had a heifer calf, Dan could have her.
