Berks Society 6 The Berks County Society of Farm Women Group 6 meeting for July was held at the home of Mary Jane Hetrick. Wendy Jesio lowski presented a program on the American FFA Degree, which she was a recipient of this year. Wen dy is a graduate of Oley Valley H.S. and Delaware Valley College. Pennsylvania Society of Farm Women awarded scholarships to Rebecca Mest, Charles Houp, and Matt Houp to further their educa tion in agriculture. During our August meeting at the home of Dorothy Wagner, an auction was held by members as a fundraiser. Everyone participated by bringing items from home to auction. A covered dish meal plus hot dogs were served followed by games for the children. The Aug. meeting celebrating “Everybody’s Birthday” was held at the home of Susie Miller. Each member received a gift from her secret pal. There were games and a birthday cake and refreshments were served by the hostess. Ellen Newswanger opened her home on July 10 to the Society #l4 Of Farm Women. Dorothy Musser, Janet Leaman, and Mir iam Groff were the hostesses who served delightful refreshments. Janet drew members’ attention to true liberty found only in Jesus Christ in her devotional medita tion. Members welcomed a hew member, Jean Groff. The speaker of the day. Lois Gascho, is active ly involved with Contact Lancas ter Help Line, which is a 24-hour day answering service for people who need a listening ear and help ful counsel. Every year in the month of August members gather with our spouse or friends at the Tinney Pa vilion in Strasburg for a picnic. Hostesses Mary Dietzel, Helen Herr and Rhoda Landis arranged the feast of covered dishes, turkey steaks and beverages. The pro gram was a tribute to the past by John Ramsey. Members were taken on a journey to many cov ered bridges. Beatrice Mull was the hostess for the evening. Each member brought items from their school days. Prizes were given for the oldest and youngest graduate, most number of A’s, most activi ties, and the member who looks most like her senior picture. A new member was received into the group. Nancy DeLong be came the 20th member of group 20. Society 14 has 28 of the Pennsylvania’s 217. Since the CORN MAZE was on the farm of one of the society’s member, members were given the opportunity to become involved for two of the days with a food stand. Farm Women raised enough money to give $l5O to Hospice. The home of Gladys Esben shade was where the September meeting was held on Sept 11. An na Marie Groff and Clara Rohrer were the hostesses. Anna Marie’s devotional meditation from Exo dus Chapter 6 reminded us of what a faithful God we have. “Who’ll give me 5? Who’ll give me 10: sold to the highest bidder” was the familiar call of the auctioneer, Ellen Newswanger. Members had great fun as we place a bid on the many items brought by members to be sold. Events coming up this fall in clude Farm Women Day breakfast at Willow Valley Oct. 14, and County Convention Nov. 2 at the Farm and Home Center. Berks Society 4 Berks County Society of Farm Women Group 4 held its Septem ber meeting at the home of Elsie Rolhenberger. President Virginia Taylor con ducted the business meeting. The County Convention will be on October S at the Berks Agriculture Center. The group will participate in registration, silent auction, door prizes, and gift basket items. Seven members plan to attend. Four members will assist at the home cooking school on October 3 at the Bally Fire Company. In observance of Farm Women’s Day on October 14, the group will meet at the home of Verna Taylor. Following the busi ness meeting we will go to dinner at Red Rock in Loysville, Perry County. During the social hour a pound auction was held. York Society 26 Yoric County Group 26 enter tained Group 20 at Alexanders Family Restaurant on Carlisle Road in York. Luna Kohler and Susan Anthos were in charge of the program. Entertainment was provided by William Anthos. A trip to Raystown Dam is scheduled for October 18.
