A strong showing by Angus competitors in the York Fair’s open class beef show finished with the breed snagging both Supreme Female and Bull banners. “BV Elba 718,” a late summer yearling heifer bred and exhibited by Doug and Kathy Strive Rohr baugh. Seven Valleys, took the Supreme Female title after besting a strong lineup of contenders in the Angus classes. Elba is sired by Century Touchstone 131, out of the dam R&lly Elba 330. She was also named best bred and owned honors for the Shive family’s Buf falo Valley showstring. The first of a newly-created, special Supreme Female Beef award was presented to the Shives from the Southcentral Pennsylva nia Cattlemen’s Association. The award is in honor and memory of former Dallastown farmer and cat tle breeder Jack Myers, whose family’s Dunkard Valley Farms is a longtime York Fair exhibitor. Champions and reserve cham pion honors in the vegetable judg ing went to Julie Me Clellan, Col wyn; David and Aaron Murphy, Collingdale: Robot, Emilie, Deb bie, and Bob Davis, Springfield; and Karen Boody, Newtown Square. Karen Boody also was champion in flowers. Michele Me Clellan, Aston and Emilie Davis, Springfield took the pet care hon ors, with other animal science winner being Erin Yoder, New town Square; Michele and Renee Schuman, Upper Darby; Sasha Kinney, Drexel Hill; and Andrew Henderson, Springfleld. Poultry champions were Emilie Davis, Springfield; Anne-Louise Ennis, Merion Ryan O’Keefe, Haver town; Michele Me Clellan, Aston and Patrick Barrett, Upper Darby. Sheep championships went to: Ben and Meredith Ruzowicz, Newtown Square; Katlyn Novel lo, Sharon Hill; Joan Harris, Nether Providence; Alex Oley kowski and Claire Barrett, Upper Darby; and Jesse Familetti, Nar beth. Delaware County 4-H Fair SPRINGFIELD (Delaware Co.) Delaware County 4-H Clubs hold the only agriculture fair in the county in mid-August at the 4-H Farm and Educational Center, on the property of the Gar rett-Williamson Foundation, Newtown Square. The two-day event featured 102 competitive entries according to Bud Bryan, county 4-H coordinator. Live stock, poultry, vegetables, animal science, pet care, and show-and tell demonstrations were all judged. Hayrides, refreshments. Medford Meats in Chester bought the champion market hog and Tom Hibberd Insurance of Media purchased the champion market lamb. Both were owned by Meredith Ruzowicz of Newtown Square. Frank and Edna Videon of Newtown Square were also top buyers in the auction, with their purchases of two lambs, one hog, eggs, and vegetables.
