A2O-Lancaster Farming, Saturday, August 10, 1996 Loving Meadows Wins Premier Exhibitor, Breeder Awards Dale-Pride Holsteins Shows Lebanon Area Fair Grand VERNON ACHENBACH JR. Lancaster Fanning Staff NORTH CORNWALL (Leba non Co.) ML-DP Jed Bloom ing, a junior 2-year-old Holstein owned and bred by Dale Hostetler, of Annville, was named the grand champion of the Lebanon Area Fair open division Holstein show on August 2. The Hostetler family also showed the reserve grand champ ion Holstein, Dale-Pride Furious Prim, a senior 3-year-old also bred and owned, in a show judged by Richard Packard, of Troy. The grand champion was a Juniper Rotate Jed-Et daughter out of herd cow ML-DP Maries Blossom. The reserve grand champion was a daughter of farm-bred bull Dale-Pride Val Furious and dam Dale-Pride Melvin Priss. The Holstein show capped a week-long showing of animals at the Lebanon Area Fair. The John and Margaret Bom gardner family, owners of Loving- Meadows Farm in Ono, earned the premier breeder and exhibitor of the show, having also shown both the junior and reserve junior champions. • Both families have been consis tent exhibitors at the fair and have done consistently well. The junior champion was a winter calf, Loving-Meadows Magda, a Carnation Counselor daughter, bred and owned by Nel son Bomgardner. A spring calf, Loving-Meadows Son Bio, owned and bred by John Bomgardner, was named reserve junior champion. There were about 125 entries in the show, with few scratches from the catalog. The Lebanon Holstein show still retains bull classes for exhibitors, though that practice has become obsolete at most local dairy shows. The winner of the grand champ ion bull was a junior yearling. Lov ing Meadows Monel, bred and owned by Margaret Bomgardner. A son of Quality Ultimate, his dam is Loving-Meadows Gen Mi.
