    PRUA Selects Dr. Wilson Executive Director
STATE COLLEGE (Centre
Co.) The Pennsylvanians for
the Responsible Use of Animals,
an affiliation of animal user
groups, has selected Dr. Lowell L.
Wilson, professor of animal sci
ence, Dept, of Dairy and Animal
Science. Penn State University as
its new executive director.
PRUA has over 25 different
affiliated oiganizations which use
animals either in agriculture,
recreation, as wildlife, and in
other ways that benefit society.
Some of the programs spon
sored by PRUA and its affiliates
are the providing of educational
materials to primary and secon
dary schools, distributing of “I
CARE” materials dealing with the
ethics of exhibiting livestock at
shows by youth, responding to

Food Banks throughout Pennsyl
vania. This program is sponsored
primarily by the United States
Tobacco Corp., as well as other

tain Chapter of the Safari Club,

PRUA has just completed a
very successful, and informative
conference on the Responsible
Use of Animals, which was parti
cularly worthwhile because -it
advanced communication
between animal users and those
who are concerned more about the
well-being of animals than the
actual contribution of animals.
Those of us who have worked
closely with PRUA over the past
few years are planning many more

ture, veal and dairy-beef systems
research, use of growth promot
ants to enhance efficiency and rate
of growth, and in the utilization of
forages and crop byproducts in
animal production systems.
Recently he has initiated research
and education efforts on the
impact of agriculture on the
environment
Dr. Wilson has authored over
100 scientific, peer-reviewed and
over 450 industry articles, and has
made presentations in 18 countries
and most states. He has also
served as a consultant to several
beef, dairy, veal and anin.?l wel
fare groups.
