OLD-FASHIONED
CRUMB CAKES
5 cups flour
2 cups sugar
Vi cup shortening
Mix together like pie crust
Reserve V* cup flour crumbs for
top. Add the following:
2 cups thick milk (Add 1 tables
poon lemon juice or vinegar per
cup to milk)
2 teaspoons baking soda
Mix well. Pour into pie pans and
bake at 350 degrees until thooth
pick comes out clear.
Great with coffee or breakfast.
This is one of my mother's favo
rite recipes. As I was growing up I
remember always having some
sort of baked goods. My mother
left me start cooking and baking at
age 8.1 still like to cook and bake.
My mother is Mrs. Wilbur Mill
er of Manheim. My paretns will
celebrate their 50th anniversary
this year. They still farm and milk
cows. This recipe was handed
down from my grandmother.

LEMON FLUFFY
1 small package lemon Jell-0
1 cup hot water
Juice of one lemon
'A lemon rind, grated
1 can evaporated
refrigerated
% cup sugar
'/ teaspoon vanilla
12 graham crackers, crumbled
Dissolve one small package
lemon Jell-0 in one cup of hot
water. Add the lemon juice and
rind. Refrigerate until it thickens to
the consistency of syrup. Whip the
chilled, canned milk. Add sugar
and vanilla to milk. Mix together
milk and Jell-O. Spread half of the
graham crackers in the bottom of a
dish. Pour mixture into dish and
sprinkle crumbs on top.
Refrigerate.

BARBECUED MEATBALLS
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
For meatballs, put in a bowl and
mix well:
1 can evaporated milk
3 pounds ground beef
2 cups quick-cooking oats
2 eggs
1 cup chopped onion
Vi teaspoon garlic powder
2 teaspoons salt
Vi teaspoon pepper
2 teaspoons chili powder
For sauce, put in a separate bowl
and mix well:
2 cups ketchup
I'A cups packed brown sugar
2 tablespoons liquid smoke
Vi teaspoon garlic powder
Vi cup chopped onion
Shape meatball mixture into
balls. Place in a single layer in one
or two 13x9x2-inch baking pans.
Cover with sauce and bake for one
hour. Makes IS large meatballs or
about 60 small ones.
Mom does a lot of cooking and
baking for her hungry family. This
is a recipe we all enjoy. With six
girls in our family, Mom often has
sewing to do. Thanks for all the
other things you do too. Mom.

PECAN CHEWS
'A pound caramels
2 tablespoons heavy cream
VA cup pecan halves
Dipping chocolate
In a double boiler, melt the car
amels and heavy cream over hot,
not boiling water. Place together
2-3 pecan halves on a well
buttered pan. Put a glob of caramel
on top, letting nuts stick out around
the caramel. Put pans in the cold to
harden. Then coat with chocolate.
Makes about 40 pecan chews.
This is a delicious kind of candy
and easy to make. My mother
enjoys making it for Christmas or
anytime
milk.

APRICOT PUDDING
3-ounces apricot Jell-0 or m
any flavor
3-ounces vanilla pudding
2Vi cups water
Whipped cream topping
Mix together pudding and
water. Bring to a boil, add
Jell-O. Chill to partly set
then beat in whipped cream
topping.
These are some of favorite
foods that my grandma Lydi
a Sensenig makes. Even
though she is legally blind,
she still makes these to share
with us.

Vi cup milk
1 square unsweetened
chocolate
1 cup sugar
2 tablespoons butter
Mix together ingredients
in a saucepan and simmer 2
minutes. Serve at once over
ice cream or yellow cake.
This recipe comes from
our Grandma Connie and is
also dedicated to Grandma
Sam, both of whom have
"sweet teeth" and would
rather garden than cook.

2 pounds ground beef
Salt and pepper to taste
'A cup chopped onion
Mix ground beef, salt,
pepper, and onion together.
Press to the sides of a
2'/j -quart casserole dish.
Fill the center with the
following:
Bread filling
Mix together and pour
over the bread filling:
1 can cream of mushroom
soup
% can milk
Bake at 350 degrees for
one hour.
