What A Blessing! As a young girl, I looked for ward to my grandmother staying at our house because she always listened to my “problems.’' As a college student, she spoke to me as an “equal” about male-female relationships. As a new wife, she gave me marital advice that I con tinue after 20 years to heed. As a young mother, she was always Rock High School and member of the Bucks County 4-H Develop ment Fund Board. She has eight yean experience in 4-H. During the conference she will participate there when I needed that extra hand. Today, even though she is gone, what she gave me can be best described as a true blessing that lives on. The bond between grandparents and children is truly a unique experience. Grandparents are for tunate to play a role that parents cannot always play. They can share experiences, thoughts, and in a work group aimed at retaining middle school youth in the 4-H program. She will also participate in creating a video which tells the story of die conference. No-till attachments give you flexibil ity to plant in all residual levels. This resource often runs short for parents. The relationship between grandparents and children is very special. Inviting children to lunch, going to a movie, eating breakfast out, or just to riding along while they perform their errands is a spe cial treat. In fact, when a grandpa rent’s invitation is extended, it is probably the quickest I have ever seen my children get out of bed in the morning. It doesn’t matter what time it is when the call com es through, they are always ready and willing to hit the road with grandma or grandpa. They don’t move this quickly even for their best friends! Grandparents arc often the most influential in encouraging child ren to try new activities, to con tinue their education, and even to help them determine the career that they choose. They also serve as a link between children and their extended family history, as well as a window into the life of an older person. v - Grandparents are wonderful teachers, role nodels, care providers, ind mentors. What grandparents say is gos iel and don’t ever try to lispute it They teach hings to your children hat you would never »gin to know how to iccomplish. Somehow they do it without receiving the least bit of resistance. You as a parent may have fought tooth and nail with your children to accomplish the same task. Why does this hap pen? This is where the blessing part takes over. Granparents can be friends, unbiased adults, and sources of uncondi tional love. They can get your children to try new foods, ride peacefully with their siblings in the back seat of a car, com plete a long homework assignment without tears, ahd clean a bed room that could be con demned by the state board of health. Grand parents are the blessings that we must humbly as parents should say, “Thank you.” Keeping this in mind, our pay back as parents will be that someday we will play the same role and help our grandchildren through some of the same tough roads in life.
