CfrUncMtor Farming, Saturday, February 10, 1996 Pioneer, Human Genome Sciences Collaborate DES MOINES, lowa—Pioneer Hi-Bfed Internationa, Inc., announced that it has signed a comprehensive corn gene sequencing and discovery colla boration agreement with Human Genome Sciences (HGS). Under the terms of the agree ment, the companies will collabo rate to sequence, identify, and determine the function of com genes based on HGS’s gene sequencing and discovery capabil ities. Com genes discovered as a result of this collaboration will be evaluated by Pioneer researchers in a number of proprietary biolog ical and analytical systems for use in product development HGS, located in Rockville, Md., conducts discovery research to create new means to predict, prevent, and cure disease in humans. It is a world leader in sequencing and discovering genes. The company applies this expertise specifically to the dis covery of human genes and deter mining use of those genes for new diagnostic tools, therapeutic methods and disease prevention. Wash System Control Improves Cleaning, Decreases Chemical Use NAPERVILLE, 111. A new milk pipeline wash system that provides more effective sanitizing with minimum water and chemi cal usage has been introduced by Babson Bros. Co. The new Surge® Navigator™ Wash Control Center is the first to control typical functions such as water fill, chemical dispensing and cycle times, as well as the operation of the air injector and' the vacuum wash. It allows these important functions to work to gether to provide the optimum slugging action with the minimum amount of water and chemical usage, according to the company. “The Navigator Wash Control Center can work with any dispens ing system and has the flexibility Case, Concord Complete Deal RACINE, Wis. Trait and Tech nology Development for Pioneer. "It will give us insight at a molecular level into complex, multiple-gene traits like drought resistance, pest resistance, yield, and maturity that can be used in the development of crops. “As a result, this collaboration will provide important clues as to which genes are ‘switched on’ when and for what purposes, and it will form the basis for research that will identify and isolate genes that contribute to agronomic traits,” Cavalieri said. “We are pleased to be able to partner with the front-runner in gene sequenc ing and discovery in this effort” Under the terms of the agree mtn, HGS will receive $l6 million from Pioneer over three years for work performed under the colla boration. The relationship is exclusive for five years. to adapt to any future system that is developed,” said Scott Opland, product marketing manager for Babson Bros. Co. “No other con trol system on the market offers the total set-up flexibility of the Navigator.” Another unique benefit the Na vigator system offers is the ability to preheat a pipeline in the wash cycle by diverting the first pass of hot water, adding extra hot water, and then dispensing detergent. This feature keeps the water temp erature at the recommended level for proper cleaning in cold cli mates. It can also accommodate three pre-sanitize settings per 24 hours to fit the needs of three-times-per day milking, according to Opland. bution. According to Tom Stadtmuel ler, general manager. Concord, the acquisition of Concord continues Case Corporation’s commitment to “lead agriculture into the 21st century.” “Concord technology has added to farmers’ success and profit ability since it was introduced in 1981,” Stadtmueller said. “Now. with Case IH adding its technolo gy base and marketing and distri bution networks, farmers will have greater access to even more productive and innovative equip ment” New Loaders For Tractors ATLANTA, Ga. Massey Ferguson is introducing two new front end loaders, models 948 and 956, designed for maximum operating efficiency with new MF 6100 and MF 8100 series tractors from 86 to 180 PTO horsepower. These new loaders are job matched to the tractors for overall performance. Loader hydraulic cylinders are sized to the tractor’s hydraulic system for exceptional loader lift capacity, breakout force, and bucket cycle times. A new Quick-Attach loader mounting system saves time when installing or removing the loader and increases the versatility of the tractor.
