He also refinishes furniture and land scapes with prolific flowers and plants. Kathryn has been a 4-H leader for about 10 years. She taught sew ing and cake decorating classes. “I always wanted to be in 4-H as a kid but there weren’t any clubs in my area except animals, H she said. Music is a big part of the cou ple’s lives. For 25 yean, Kathryn sang tin a sextet and her husband sang in a quartet Both play the piano. And Kathryn has directed several choin over the yean. She also is a Sunday school teacher for high school girls and she and her husband have served as youth advisers over the yean. “So many arc afraid of teen-age yean. But I think it’s a gorgeous age,” she said. The Frys are now shepherd lead ers at Congregational Bible Church. After the children were grown, Kathryn began working as a nurse at Landis Homes, a retirement community. “Geriatric nursing is an exciting and busy challenge. I think people in their golden years need to be kept comfortable and every effort should be made to make these years the happiest time of their lives,” Kathryn said. Gradu ally the Frys sold their cows as they freshened and concentrated on crop fanning. Lowell punued a degree in busi ness and finance, but farming was still in his blood. He now works as an ag lender for a local bank and crop farms the Frys’ 80 acres. Dur ing the transition. Albert took an off-farm job. Another son, Loren, his wife and grandson live nearby. While her involvement is multi faceted, Kathryn continues to find the most fulfilment in family and home. Her purpose, like those stated by the Society of Farm . Women, is to contribute to the 'power and influence of the farm home, to contribute to the com munity activity of farm women, and to develop leadership and promote better living and working conditions in the fiurm homes of Pennsylvania.
