Ephrata Fair Sale Posts Results
EPHRATA (Lancaster Co.)
Sale results from the Ephrata Fair
were announced recently.
The grand champion steer,
shown by Cory Simo, Lancaster, a
calf purchased from Salunga
Acres, was sold to Family Time
Restaurant for $l,lOO. Cory is a
member of the Grassland FFA at
Garden Spot High School.
Exhibitor of the grand champion
hog, Tracy Bollinger, Manheim,
sold the hog to Hatfield Packing
for $2,85 a pound. 4 The reserve,
shown by Ginny Nolt, Ephrata,
was sold to Ephrata National Bank
for $2 a pound.
Grand champion of the market
lambs went to Joleen Herbert,
Terre Hill, of the Hans Herr FFA,
and was sold to Corestates Bank
for $2.90 a pound. Jenny Hoover,
Lancaster County 4-H and Cloister
FFA member, sold the reserve
champion to Dr. Walter Trum
bauer, Ephrata, for $2.50 a pound.
Grand champion of the market lambs went to Joleen Her*

Kerper’s ‘Petunia’ Takes
Reading Beef Trophy
KUTZTOWN (Berks Co.)
Richard Kerper, Jr. won grand
champion in the heifer competition
at Reading Fair recently with
“Petunia,” his crossbred junior
heifer calf.
At the fair, held at the Kutztown
Fairgrounds, the Berks County
4-H held its heifer roundup in con
junction with the fair. Champion
went to Troy Gelsinger with his
Simmental heifer, “Trouble.”
In the market steer competition,
grand champion went to David
Newpher. Reserve champion was
awarded to Lee Gauker of Fleet
wood for his Charolais crossbred
steer named “George.”
For the fitting competition,
champion senior was awarded to
Tammy Gelsinger. Intermediate
was Kelly Dietrich. Junior inter
mediate was Lee Gauker. Junior
champion went to Cathy Levan.
In the showmanship competi
tion, senior first place went to Troy
Gelsinger. Intermediate went to
Mark Manwiller. Junior interme
diate went to Ben Weist Junior
intermediate was awarded to Kris
ty Dietrich.
The Beiks County 4-H Beef
Club members will be holding
their steer roundup on OcL 11 at
the Leesport Parma’s Market at 9
a.m. (show) and 4 p.m. (sale).
