Ida’s
Notebook
Ida Risser
As summter draws to a close, we
attended one last picnic. This one
was a community picnic held at a
local church grounds.
The village of Oregon has
banded together to accomplish

Soon we can remove the air con

Carl Kauffman, center, tells visitors at the Solanco Fair how he raised these picture*
perfect peppers for competition. Kauffman, a former farmer, said that he didn’t water
the sweet peppers despite dry weather conditions, but he did use a commercial fertil
izer. To enjoy peppers year-round, Kauffman chops the peppers and freezes until
ready to use.
