Local Auctioneers
Attend Convention
NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. C.

of C. Sherman Allen, Auctioneer
and Associates in Conneaut Lake,
Pa. were among the auctioneers
from throughout the United States
and Canada who attended the re
cent 1995 National Auctioneers
(NAA) National Convention.
NAA conducted 33 workshops.
Some of the subjects covered at
this year’s convention included
conducting real estate, personal
property, commercial/heavy
equipment, and agribusiness auc
tions. The increasing complexity
of today’s business world makes
education programs like these in
dispensable.
In addition to NAA workshops,
seminars were conducted by the
Auction Marketing Institute, Na
tional Auctioneers Foundation,
Nadonal Auctioneers Association
Auxiliary, and various vendors.
The 1994 Men’s and Women’s
Division International Auctioneer
Champions were selected during
the convention, and three mem
bers were recognized for their
contribution of their profession by
their induction into the NAA Hall
of Fame. Robin Marshall of Elm
Creek, Neb., was installed as the
1995-1996 president of the

designed to communicate the
company’s prominent role within

While Northrup King’s colors
have changed, the familiar North
rup King “NK” brand remains a
part of the new logo.
“We’ve been a part of Sandoz
for nearly 20 years,” said Kent
Schulze, president and CEO of
Northrup King. “With the intro
duction of our new brand logo,
we’re simply saying that Northrup
King customers are supported by a
worldwide network of research
based seed companies and a team
of more than 900 Sandoz Seeds re
searchers.”
Sandoz Ltd., Basel, Switzer
land, first entered the seed indus
try two decades ago, when it ac
quired Rogers Brothers Seed Co.
in 1975. The following year, the

Company Receives National
DEKALB. 111. Dekalb Swine
Breeders. Inc. bested 16 other
companies to receive national re
cognition for its training program
with a community college.
Ben Standard, responsible for
Dekalb’s Foundation Farm train
ing programs, accepted the 1995
National Exemplary Business In
volvement Award for the com
pany in Washington, D.C. The
award was presented by the Na
tional Association of State Coun
cils on Vocational Education at its
national convention.
Dekalb Swine Breeders’ presi
dent Roy Poage said the company
was honored to receive this award
over other state winners. Earlier
this year, the company was select
ed as the Kansas state winner for
what judges called “a unique busi
ness approach to meeting its need
for qualified employees by creat
ing a training program with an
educational institution.”

County Community College be
gan working together in 1990 to
address the shortage of labor with
in the swine industry. “In the last
decade, swine production has be
come a highly technical industry,”
said Poage. “The two-year asso
