The event is sponsored by the Pennsylvania Sheep and Wool Growers and managed by David Harpster, Boalsburg. Sheep were placed by Doris Powell and Kenneth T. Moore, Jr., both of Rome. This year’s sale was dedicated to the honor of Kenneth Moore and in memory of Ruth Moore, Rome. Buster Wilson, Rural Retreat, Virginia, was presented with Townsend Award for Best Consignment The supreme champion ram (fall ram lamb, champion Suffolk) consigned by Lyn-Lee Farm, State College, was purchased by Timothy Ruth, Pineville, for $550. The supreme champion ewe (early spring ewe lamb, champion Polled Dorset) consigned by Riverwood Farms, Powell, Ohio, was sold to Harold and Linda Tyson, Kempton, for $425. The champion Jackpot Wether was shown by Emitt McMillen, Indiana, and the reserve champion Jackpot Wether was shown by Jeff Rapasky, Ohio. The top selling ram was the reserve champion Polled Dorset ram from Penn State. This early spring ram lamb sold for $1,200. Welsh, Jr., Man- Dauphin Holstein Field Day Held At Great-View The Dauphin County Holstein Field Day was held on July 15 at Great-View Farm hosted by The Millers on the hottest day of the year. Record heat was over 100 degrees. Two classes of Holstein indivi duals were judged with winners in the Men’s division -1. Dave Wen ger of Lancaster Co., 2. Jay Kopp; Ladies division -1. Theresa Feidt, 2. Shawn Wenger, Youth division - 1. Adam Kopp. Paul Miller served as the offi cial judge. A delicious pig roast was served following the judging. Holstein Association was repre sented by Clarence Stauffer. Bob Schaffer, state director, mentioned the catch-up program Holstein has implemented and also contributed a hand-made plywood Holstein lawn ornament for one of the door prizes. Guest speakers for the event in cluded newly elected National Holstein President John Cope and Esquire Gary Heim. Cope report ed on the National Convention just held in Pittsburgh. He an nounced the chairpersons for Na tional Committees and also gave a report on the financial picture, stating the new building in Brat tleboro should be debt free by the end of next year and still show a healthy reserve fund. He also told the group about the milking con test held in front of the Pittsburgh Vista which included the Agricul ture Secretary, Charles Brosius and departing Secretary, Boyd Wolff, John Cope, Steve Kerr, John Selz, Whitey McKown, and last minute entrants from the crowd, Mel Hertzler and Paul Miller. Hertzler and Miller were declared the official winners and made the front page news in Pitts burgh. Cope challenged the win ners to a rematch in Texas next year. Heim talked on estate plan ning and was well received by the farmers present Theresa Feidt had charge of the children’s games and they mostly Has $1,200 Top sfield, for $l5O.
