Page 20—Dairy of Distinction Supplement to Lancaster Farming, Saturday, July 29,1995 n {SOMERSET Rocky Hollow Farms Rocky Hollow Farms in Somerset is a family farm being operated by the father-son partnership of Eldon and Mark Sechler, fourth and fifth generation family on the farm, respectively. The handsome farmstead sits along Rt. 281, a main Somerset thoroughfare. The partnership formed In 1981 and the two own 800 acres and rent additional ground to raise a total of about 150 acres alfala hay, 175 acres of corn, and about 75 acres of barley to feed their 115-head, closed milking string of registered and grade Holsteins. The herd is on official DHlAtest and has a rolling herd average of about 19,500 pounds of milk. The operation consists of an old bank barn with a freestall extension, and a new brick mllkhouse, a Virglnia-styie heifer barn and two small poul try buildings converted to raise calves.
