Page S—Dairy of Distinction Supplement to Lancaster Farming, Saturday, July 29,1995 £7 Peaceful Acres The David and Rhoda King family operate the 600-acre Peaceful Acres Dairy of Distinction Farm In Cochranville, Chester County. “Diversification and the Lord” helped them through a lot of hard times, according to Rhoda. The family manages about 52 milking and 50 young stock of grade Hols teins, milking from tlestall to pipeline. They graze the animals and don’t use a TMR. The main farm has been in the family 46 years, according to Rhoda, and there are three other farms, maintained by three sons, Clair, 40, Marvin, 38, and Gerald, 29. Four other sons are James, 44, Kevin, 36, Earl Dwayne, 34, and Timothy, 32. One aspect of the farm’s diversification Is selling different sized bags of potatoes. Esther said she works with the farm family members today to develop “a lot of patience and to'teach a lot of respect and responsibilities on the farm,” she said. “It doesn’t hurt to work on a farm." The DHIA rolling herd average is 22,449 pounds milk, 768 f, and 728 p, milking from tlestall to pipeline. A feed company creates a special TMR.
