Itle’s district includes Somerset
and Cambria counties. He previ
ously served as a Pa.DHIA state
director from to 1992.
The Valewood Dairy consists of
600 acres with a milking herd of
about 160 registered Holsteins,
and 120 replacement heifers. The
‘ rolling herd average at the end of
1 September last year was 20,866
pounds of milk, 786 pounds butter
fat, and 680 pounds of protein.
The dairy is a family corpora
tion and produces, processes and
distributes milk. William and wife
Joyce have three children, Carissa,
20, Cortney, 18, and Lindsey, 15.
“Grandpap started with
Pa.DHIA in the 40s and we’ve
been there every since,” he said.
“Without the current management
information, we could not
operate.”
In addition to the dairy opera
tion and his DHIA responsibilities,
William also volunteers service for
the local high school’s junior
achievement program, as well as
serving as a director on the board
of the Cambria County Mutual
Insurance Company.
Mark Eby’s Mount-Top-Vue
Farm herd consists of about 80
Holstcins, registered and grade,
that lead Sullivan County for pro
duction last year with an average
of 26,095 pounds milk, 1,119
pounds butterfat, and 814 pounds
of protein. His herd has Ixsen on
test for 12 years.
He and his wife Loretta pur
chased, their 250-acre farm in 1991
and ti/o children, Laura, 5, and
Kr&h, 1.

touches on the board’s recom

concerns.
As of this week, that staff
review was not yet completed, but

week from Mike Krempasky,
executive secretary of the state
Conservation Commission, to
advisory board members, the
staff expects to recommend only
two changes to the commission.”
According to letter, the first
change has been suggested by
DER Secretary Jim Seif. His sug
gestion is to shorten review times
for voluntary nutrient management
plans, so as to encourage voluntary
planning.
The second recommendation
concerns the advisory board’s
recommendation for a definition
for “farming resources” that who
include those who board horses to
fall under the law.
