The Valewood Dairy consists of 600 acres with a milking herd of about 160 registered Holsteins, and 120 replacement heifers. The ‘ rolling herd average at the end of 1 September last year was 20,866 pounds of milk, 786 pounds butter fat, and 680 pounds of protein. The dairy is a family corpora tion and produces, processes and distributes milk. William and wife Joyce have three children, Carissa, 20, Cortney, 18, and Lindsey, 15. “Grandpap started with Pa.DHIA in the 40s and we’ve been there every since,” he said. “Without the current management information, we could not operate.” In addition to the dairy opera tion and his DHIA responsibilities, William also volunteers service for the local high school’s junior achievement program, as well as serving as a director on the board of the Cambria County Mutual Insurance Company. Mark Eby’s Mount-Top-Vue Farm herd consists of about 80 Holstcins, registered and grade, that lead Sullivan County for pro duction last year with an average of 26,095 pounds milk, 1,119 pounds butterfat, and 814 pounds of protein.
