Pennsylvania Cattlemen’s
Association (PCA) president Bob
Hay presented the 1995 Top Hand
Award to Glenn Eberly for recruit
ing the most members. Eberly is
director of the Pennsylvania Meat
Animal Evaluation Center.
Dr. Lowell Wilson presented
the Commercial Breeder of the
Year, Seeds lock Breeder, and
Industry Service awards.
Orlando Marzo and Mark See
ley stepped forward to accept the
Commercial Breeders Award for
their contributions to the beef
industry and for their work at the
Tioga Fairgrounds and to area
youth.
Seedstock Breeder Award went
to John Myers of the Jack Myers
family of Dunkard Valley Farm,
whose theme is, “We don’t pro
duce show cattle. We show the
cattle we produce.”
Industry Service Award went to
Bill McCoy of Lancaster County
for his more than 30 years in lives

charter member of the National
Cattlemen’s Association.

ants in the Cattlmen’s Queen Prog
ram. The 1994 Cattlemen Queen
Nichole Willwert presented her
farewell speech as did outgoing
Cattlement Princess Sherry Ish
man. Both are seniors at Penn
State.
Roxanne Kirst was then
crowned 1995 Cattlemen Queen.
Heather Sleeman, Anita Long, and
Jennifer Dunleavy will assist as
princesses. Jennifer Dunleavy
received the 1995 PCA Junior
Member scholarship.
Five new directors were elected
to serve a 3-year term. William
McCoy of Lancaster County, a
charter member of the National
Cattlemen’s Association, has
served as president of the Lancas
ter Stockyards since 1972. McCoy
is vice president of the Pennsylva
nia Auction Markets Association,
director of the American Stock
yards Association, secretary and
past treasurer of the Pennsylvania
Beef Council, trustee of the Lives
tock Markets Association, presi
dent of Lancaster Livestock
Exchange, and former director of
the PCA.
Mylin Messick of Dauphin
County has been breeding Sim
mentals for about IS years. He
earned supreme champion bull at
the 1995 Pennsylvania Farm

Show. Messick’s bulls have tested
well in the Penn State performance
testing programs. He is an active
member of the Pennsylvania Sim
mental Association and as director
of the PCA. In 1990, Messick was
named Seedstock Breeder of the
Year.
John Myers of York County is
manager and part owner of Dunk
ard Valley Farms. A graduate of
Penn State and former Meats Judg
ing Team member, Myers sells and
shows cattle across the country. He
is vice president of the Colonial

Paul Slayton manages more
than SO Polled Hereford and
Angus cows on his 260-acre farm
in Bedford County. Raised in Illi
nois, Slayton was graduated from
the University of Illinois and was a
member of this 1970 Illinois Lives
tock Judging Team. After working
for several beef farms and organi
zations, including the Ankony
#Bnr
Angus Corporation, the American
Polled Hereford Association, and
the Polled Hereford World, Slay
ton moved to Pennsylvania in 1983
to manage the Falklands Farm in
Schellsburg.
Darron Smith of Berks County
formed the Diamond DL Cattle
farm in 1993. It has grown to
include 70 Angus, 20 Limousin,
and 70 crossbred .cattle. Smith
serves as director for the Lehigh
County Farm Bureau. His farm
offers A.I. breeding service to area
herds.
