The Woods were named Premier Breeder at the 1994 and 1993 Eastern National Holstein shows and were Premier Breeder and Exhibitor honor recipients at the 1994 Pennsylvania Fall Championship show. Both Steve and Chris are in demand for show judging and have judged dairy shows in states througout the region. Steve has been Adams County’s director to the state Holstein board, chaired the State Show committee and served on Program Development and Evalu ation committees. Chris has served on the state Holstein’s Youth Committee, along with holding various offices and com mittee chair positions at the local level. As the 1995 Pennsylvania Hols tein Distinguished Young Breeder winners, they will compete for the national award in June. That selec tion will be announced during (he annual National Holstein Conven tion, which the Pennsylvania Holstein Association will host at Pittsburgh in late June. The Woods are member producers of Atlantic Dairy Cooperative and members of the Farm Bureau and Dairy Shrine. Both are actively involved mem bers of St. Paul Lutheran Church. While they hope their sons will be interested in the family farm, the Woods want Clayton and Cor bin to have the opportunity to par ticipate in school and sports activ ities if they so choose. Though their herd escaped unscathed from the fire’s deadly potential. Chris and Steve emerged from • the terrifying experience with renewed appreci ation for family, friends and neighbors. They hope to install an alarm system of some type and encourage all farmers to have their electrical systems and wiring inspected and upgraded regularly. Scott and Larissa Doody will soon move from their home at Penn Gate to begin their own dairy farming operation near Woods boro, Maryland. As part of their new herd, the Doodys will take with them a December registered Holstein calf bearing the Penngate prefix, a gift of gratitude for their courage and quick action from Steve and Chris. The Woods also express thanks to the dozens of firefighters from nearby communities who turned out to help. Participating fire com panies included Littlestown, Kmgsdale, Harney. Bonneauville, Barlow and Gettysburg. Two New Farmers’ Markets To Open ■tiers’ market sales will have two new markets to consider in Har ford County this season. According to Bill Amoss of the Harford County Economic Deve lopment office, new markets are set up to go on Thursdays at the big Aberdeen Proving Grounds Complex and another new market for Saturday mornings at the Abingdon Wal-Mart. Amoss is working with Tony Evans of the Maryland Depart ment of Agriculture to organize the new markets, which will see the number of fanners’ markets in Harford County go from one (at Bel Air) to three in 1995. The Bel Air market is sponsored by the Bel Air Jaycecs and has proven to be a real success. It operates two days each week. Preference for participants in the new Aberdeen and Abingdon Lancaster Fanning, Saturday, April 8, 1995-A37 markets will be given to farmers and producers in Harford, Balti more, and Cecil counties.
