Coronation , Vintage Fashions Highlight Auxiliary Program At Fruit And Vegetable Conference LOU ANN GOOD Lancaster Farming Staff HERSHEY (Dauphin Co.) The Women’s Auxilary offers an alternative to the educational ses sions at the Pennsylvania Fruit and Vegetable Growers Conference held last week at the Hershey Lodge and Convention Center. “We provide a relaxing time for women accustomed to hectic sche dules,” said Tempalyn Lohr, presi dent of the Maryland Auxilary, which works in conjuction with the Tri-State Auxilary in planning the program. “It’s mostly a social organiza tion but it’s also a place to exchange ideas on marketing.” The Auxilary also pays the expenses of the apple queen and selects the queen. In addition to the Maryland Apple Queen Coronation and a business session, this year’s agen da included touring Chocolate World, shopping, a vintage fashion show, and a luncheon. Jody Tucker of Damascus, Md., was crowned the Maryland Apple Queen during the Thursday luncheon. Jody is the 18-year-old daughter of Joan and Bill Tucker. Jody’s tie to the apple indusiry is working at the farm market of Butler’s Orchard in Germantown. An honor student at high school, Jody is a varsity and junior varsity cheerleader, and is an All-Star squad member of the University Cheerleading Association. She participates in marching and sym phonic bands, student government, and the school newspaper staff. Jody has studied classic ballet for nine years and student teaches dance to seven through 10-year- Maryland Apple Queen . crowi ig the auxiliary program at the Fruit and Vegetable Growers Conference. She is selected as one of 20 finalists for a full four-year scholarship at Radford. In addition to the coronation, a vintage fashion show was held with members of the auxilary mod eling dresses from the 1800 s to the present. The collection is owned by Mira Graves, who said her mother collected three generations of clothing. The Tri-State Auxilary includes members from New Jersey, Mary land and Pennsylvania. Maryland also maintains a separate auxilary, but work together in planning the Pennsylvania program, according to Tempalyn Lohr, who is presi dent. Lohr is serving her second two-year term as president while completing graduate studies and working at Lohr’s Orchard owned by her parents. Additional officers selected dur ing the business meeting include treasurer Helen Black whose daughter Pat Black is a committee member. The Blacks owned Catoc tin Mountain Orchard in Thur mont, Md. Vice-president Marg Jacques is from Smithsbutg where she helps with the family’s Edgemont Orchard, which has .been in her husband’s family for four generations. Michele Konno is secretary for the Tri-State Auxilary. Marcella Tanrer is treasurer. Other commit tee members are Doris Trax of Trax Farms in Liverpool, Pa., and Darlene Hurff from NJ.
