Lancaster 4-H Shepherd of the Year Jason Stoltzfus called win ning the grand champion market lamb award at the 1994 Denver Fair “the ultimate” moment in his 4-H showing career, after capping off the ultimate achievement as sheep club member. Jason, 17, son of Frank and Irene Stoltzfus, Elizabethtown, not only was able to heft up the coveted Shepherd trophy, but also took home the $230 Woolies Club Scholarship, a gift from the Gerald Engle family, on Thursday even ing at the Lancaster County 4-H Livestock Banquet. At the banquet, about 200 4-H members, family, and supporters turned out to see youth honored for their achievements in the past year. Jason, a senior at Elizabethtown High School, intends to use the scholarship to study radio television-film with a business minor at Messiah College. A nine year 4-H member, the past show ing season, he said, was really good, and he intends to show another year at several county fairs and at Farm Show. For the first time in memory, the Novice Shepherd Award, normal ly given to a burgeoning first or second year 4-H’er, was awarded to the entire family of Jeniffer, Jimmy, and Jay Zimmerman, of Akron. Their parents are Jay and Joanne Zimmerman. The Red Rose 4-H Award, a tri bute to Max Smith and sponsored by Salunga Acres, Mount Joy, was awarded to Danielle and Deidra Buchen. The Jason L. Weaver Memorial Leadership Award, pre sented by the Jason L. Weaver Family, was received by Casey High. Chet Hughes, county livestock agent and 4-H adviser, said this year there were more than SO tro phy and award sponsors and nearly 40 lamb and steer buyers.
