WILLIAMSPORT (Lycoming Co.) If you are interested in gar dening, a special Penn State Exten sion program will start Feb. 14. The Master Gardener Program offers the opportunity to receive 30 hours of training in many phas es of gardening. This in-depth pro gram will be conducted by exten sion agents from six counties. Topics and schedule are as fol lows: Master Grower Training Available Feb 14: Introductions: Com mitment and Follow-up; Basic Botany Feb 16: Soils Nutrition; Plant Propagation Feb 21: Turf; Insects Feb 23: Vegetables; IPM Feb 28: Pesticide Safety: Dis eases Mar 2: Turf & Ornamentals Seminar Mar 7: Ornamental; Wrap-up and test The program will run for six consecutive Tuesdays and Thurs days beginning Feb. 14 and will be held in St. John’s United Church of Christ in Lewisburg. The ses sions will run from 9 am to 4 p.m. each day. After the training, participants will be expected to provide SO-60 Lancaster Farming, Saturday, February 4, 1995-815 hours of gardening-related com munity service work in the local area. The cost for this training includes a $45 registration fee, and a limited amount of expense to participants to complete their vol unteer service. A large, in-depth gardening manual will be included in the reg- istration fee. Meals are brown bag.
