ICE SCUIPTURES - Armed with chain saws and ice
picks, culinary students from the Indiana University of
Pennsylvania will delight visitors on Tuesday and
Wednesday with their creativity and skillful designs
carved from ice.
JUNIOR LIVESTOCK SALE - Thursday s Junior
Livestock Sale salutes the young people of Pennsylvania
agriculture, recognizing the dedication and achievements
of 4-H and FFA members involved in junior market
livestock programs. Gamings from the annual auction go
to these young exhibitors, often enabling them to pursue
careers in agriculture. The Pennsylvania Farm Show
Scholarship Foundation now provides annual scholar
ships to outstanding junior exhibitors. The funds are
derived from donations, membership fees and a small
percentage from the Junior Livestock Sale. We encourage
you to attend the sale and support our young people.
MILKING PARLOR - Hundreds of cows are milked
twice a day in a modem milking parlor in the North
Building - a miniature version of the milk houses found

NOVELTIES - T-shirts, sweatshirts, hats and toys with
the Farm Show logo will be sold from several locations
throughout the Complex. A few Bruce Johnson prints
and posters are still available from last year. Your trip
won't be complete without a Farm Show souvenir.
PROGRAM BOOK - The Official Farm Show
Program Souvenir Book is available for $2 at the main
entrances of the Farm Show Complex. The book includes
daily schedules, maps, exhibitors lists, highlights from last
year's extravaganza and information on Pennsylvania's
commodity representatives. The program also serves as a
valuable reference tool, featuring other information on
Pennsylvania agriculture and the vital associations that
make it our number one industry.
OLDER PENNSYLVANIANS RECEPTION
CENTER - A reception center will be open on Monday,
Agricultural Heritage Day, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the
Main Lobby along the south side of the complex for older
visitors to relax and acquire pertinent information.

available.
OPENING CEREMONY - Get your seat early for
Saturday's opening ceremony in the Large Arena. Pre
rodeo activities are scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.,
followed by the Governor's Address at 11:30. The first of
two performances by the Pennsylvania High School
Rodeo Association begins at noon. All of the festivities
are free and open to the public.
SWINE - Competition among swine breeders at events
such as die Farm Show helps them produce a leaner
animal than those of years gone by. Nearly 500 head of
breeding gilts and junior market swine were judged for a
share of last year's prize money.
TOUR THE LABS OF THE DEPARTMENT
OF AGRICULTURE - Public tours of the food and
plant laboratories at the Ag Building across from the Farm
Show will be offered Monday through Thursday at 10
a.m. and 2 p.m. When walking from the Farm Show
Complex to the Department of Agriculture, please use the
pedestrian tunnel to go under Cameron Street. Tours will
begin in the Front Lobby of the Ag Building. Pre-arranged
tours are also available for agricultural groups at other
times during the week.
VICTORY GARDEN - The Huntingdon County Vo-
Ag Department will recreate a WWII Victory Garden in
the Family Comer, just as people all across America
turned their yards and vacant lots into "Victory Gardens"
to supplement the vegetables they could get at the grocery
store. In 1943 these gardens provided more than a third
of all the vegetables grown in the country. Farmers
dedicated "an acre for a soldier" and donated the profits
from the sale of crops to canteens for servicemen.
