PARADISE (Lancaster Co.) The second annual Southeast Pen nsylvania Grazing Conference is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 7 here at the Dutch Town and Country Inn, beginning at 8 a.m. One of the featured speakers for the event, which focuses on the theme. “Seasonal Dairying and Diversification,” is William Pat terson. Patterson was recently hon ored with the 1994 Distinguished Dairyman Award from the Virgi nia Dairymen’s Association in conjuction with Virginia Tech. Patterson will be speaking about taking the dairy herd from high production to high profits using grazing. Abo speaking will be Dr. David Zartman, professor, Ohio State University. Zartman will be speak ing about seasonal dairying and will share the results of five years of research. Joel Salatin, columnist for Grassland Farmer and a Virginia grazer, will provide an overview of diversification with beef and poul try. Salatin will abo speak about making a profit using in-depth information on small farm eco nomics and marketing. Dave Forgey, Hoard’s Dairy man columnist and Indiana dairy fanner, will offer practical tips and hands-on experience with seasonal grass dairying. Also scheduled is Tim Fritz, Montgomery County extension agent, who will provide an over view of his collection of grazing ideas from various Pennsylvania farms. Throughout the meeting will be opportunities to meet with the speakers and an open forum, fea turing question and answer ses sions. Also, time will be provided to visit the Cofhmfercial exhibits!
