The 1994 National Shorthorn Show held in conjunction with the North American International Livestock Exposition demonstrated the qual ity, positive direction and increased standing attained by the Shorthorn breed in the last few years. In total, 233 head of Shorthorn bulls and females were paraded in front of the judge, Dr. Jim New some of Jackson, Miss., and the associate judge, Randy Daniel of Colbert, Ga. With quality running deep into the classes, the judges congratulated the breed on its foresight and the positive moves made within the breed. Taking home the the grand champion bull honor was MTS Special Effect *x, exhibited by Robert and Beverly Alden, Hamil ton, Mo.; Dean Farms, Cleburne, Texas; and Fair Acres Stock Farm, Waldorf, Minn. Earlier named the junior champion bull, he was sired by Jordan *xar and bred by the Mike Studer Family, Wesley, lowa, and Marian and Brenda Korthaus, Moulton, lowa. A July ‘93 summer yearling, the 7.6 frame bull weighed in at 1,772 pounds and posted a 3.54 WDA. After standing second in class behind the grand champion, JG Cactus Jack 9340 *x went on to be named the reserve junior champi on and captured the reserve grand champion bull title. The May ‘93 late spring yearling female was sired by Tonquish Monarch and had a 8.5 frame score, Grabbing the reserve grand champion female honors was Sutherland Amber 359.
