QUESTION Evelyn Michaels, Beaver, asks if anyone
remembers Ole Old, a type of linament made by Dr. Peter
Farhney and Sons Company in N.Y. City. It contained cam
phor, oil of cloves, sassafras, and turpentine. The Swedish/
Finnish community in Tioga County used it widely from the
1930 s to the 19605. Evelyn has asked telephone operators in
the calling areas 212,718,917, and 914, for telephone listings
for the company but no listing exists in those areas. Does any
one know a supplier?
ANSWER Teresa Wenger, Elizabethtown, wanted to
know where she can purchase bee’s wax to make candles.
Thanks to Bob Hughes, who writes that he handles all the
supplies needed to make beeswax candles. He also will be
teaching an adult evening course on it at Garden Spot High
School, starting in January. His address is Rainbow Apiaries,
668 Turkey Hill Rd., East Earl, PA 17519. Or, call (717)
445-6674.
ANSWER —George Rockes, Ruffsdale, has-an answer for
Nelson Austin, Shinglehouse, who wanted to know how to dry
black walnuts. Rockes writes that he puts about five gallons of
walnuts in a feed sake and lays them on the driveway. He
drives his pick up over them a few times until he thinks they
are all crushed. Then he dumps out the walnuts and picks up
the nuts, puts them in a tub of water tp wash them, and lays
them in the sun or on a shed roof to dry.
