‘Farm
WASHINGTON,
D.C. ’‘Farm country
isn’t farm country any
more,” said Robert E.
Barrow, Master of the
National Grange, in his
opening remarks at the
Grange’s annual con
vention in Peoria, 111.,
recently.
"Neither the bulk of
the nation’s fanners nor
the bulk of the total
value of the nation’s
agricultural production
comes from the tradi
tional farming areas,”
said Barrow. “It is also
time we drop the myth
that federal farm pro
grams address the needs
of all farmers.”
Barrow said, “The
success of the 1995
Farm Bill will be mea
sured against the real
ities of an emerging 21st
Century American agri
cultural landscape rather
than the farm production
patterns of the past.”
He said, “The 1995
Farm Bill should contain
specific programs that
will provide funding for
agriculturally-related
business development
and job creation. It
should also provide fund
ing for research on new
uses for agricultural
commodities that can
become additional tools
for rural economic de
velopment.”
An integral part of
the 1995 Farm Bill will
be the continuation of
the Conservation Re
serve Program (CRP),
begun in 1986 as a
means of taking 36 mil
lion acres of highly
credible farmland out
of production. Barrow
praised the CRP for its
environmental benefits
and for boosting water
quality.
“Eliminating the
CRP would reduce farm
income, lower gram
prices, increase the gov
ernment’s subsidies and
eliminate billions of
dollars in conservation
benefits,” Barrow said.
“The CRP is a winner
for larmcrs and the
environment and should
be continued.”

Everyone’s singing the praises
of the new Harmony Milker Unit
It’s no wonder the Harmony 95 Milker Unit is
getting such rave reviews.
The larger, 12mm milk tube allows
superior milk flow to the claw.
Winch means faster milkout for you
Its special, puncture-resistant liner
design, along with an exceptionally
stable vacuum, virtually eliminates
teat wash. Which means your herd
will he healthier.
Its lightweight design can result in
less slips and fall-offs. Which means
it’s easier for you to use.

And its patented, top-unloading design not only
transfers milk to the pipeline quicker, it does so
while keeping milk proteins intact.
Which means you can get better
quality milk.
