A36-Lancaster Farming, Saturday, October 29, 1994 FFA Members To Receive National Recognition KANSAS CITY Mo. National recognition will be given to Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, Ohio, West Virginia, and Virginia FFA members at the world’s largest annual youth gathering, the 67th National FFA Convention to be held Nov. 10-12 here. More than 32,000 FFA members, guests and supporters are expected to attend. Olympic gold medalists Flo rence and A 1 Joyner will speak during the reflections programs on Wednesday afternoon and evening prior to the start of the convention. Speakers confirmed for the convention include former Apple Macintosh computer guru Guy Kawasaki, Tennessee Commis sioner of Agriculture Cotton Ivy, motivational speaker Craig Karges- Vietnam veteran Dave Roever, Miss America Heather Whitestone, founder of the Family AIDS Net work Mary Fisher. Laser light shows will be part of each conven tion session, courtesy of the Kansas City convention sponsors as a special project of the National FFA Foundation. In addition, convention partici pants will have opportunities to attend leadership workshops, tour Kansas City manufacturing and agribusiness sites, take in Ameri can Royal Livestock Show and Rodeo performances, and meet with fellow FFA members from around the nation. Other highlights will include the selection of top FFA members in 29 agricultural proficiency award areas, national career skill competitions, prepared and extem poraneous public speaking con tests, and a parliamentary proce dure contest. The American Star Farmer and American Star in Agribusiness will be named and 1,454 members will receive the American FFA Degree, the orga nization’s highest award. Top chapters in safety, community development and overall chapter activities will also be recognized. In addition, the 1994-1995 nation al FFA officers will be elected and installed. The National Agricultur al Career Show and the National FFA Alumni Convention are held in conjunction with the FFA con vention.
