As a result of a several month survey and eva luation, the state Department of Apicul ture (PDA) has com pleted and published a listing of 800 farm markets, roadside stands and pick-your own farm operations throughout the state. The guide became available October and copies have been sent to county Penn State Cooperative Extension offices, the PDA’s seven regional offices, and to the 11 tourist “welcome” centers located around the state. According to the PDA, the publication is an update of a previous listing, last completed in 1988. PDA officials said that the current list is believed to be fairly comprehensive. Questionnaires were sent out in March and an evaluation process on subsequent returned information was done. About 7,000 of the total 10,000 guides printed were distributed in Sep tember for public disse mination. Some exten sion offices contacted were already out of their initial allocation. The guide can help the slate’s residents and visitors find quality food at the state’s farm markets, according to state Agriculture Secret-* ary Boyd Wolff. “Pennsylvania’s agri cultural producers bring quality products from their homes to yours," Wolff said. “Our new guide will help consum ers locate a wide selec tion of wholesome foods in their areas.” Although (he 1994 growing season is over, many of farm markets offer much more than fresh fruits and
