C2-Lancaster Farming, Saturday, October 1, 1994 P Livestock Ledger ' ; By Chester D. Hughes WtKmd k JHH Extension Livestock Specialist It certainly hasn’t been the best summer for cattle feeders and hog producers with market levels well below those of recent years. Penn State Agricultural Economist H. Louis Moore claims that help is just around the corner. The battered cattle and hog industries will get some help this fall in the form 6f lower feed costs. Earlier fears of a hot , dry summer gave way in July to almost ideal corn and soybean weather The Outlook Board went out on a limb m July and forecast a nine billion bushel com crop and a 2.155 billion bushel soybean crop for 1994. The previous record for corn was the 9.3 billion bushel crop harvested in 1992. But the weather since July has been so favofable that the USD A, in its upcoming forecast reports, will almost certainly revise the size of the crop upward. It is pos sible that a new record corn har vest could be set this fall. At $2 per bushel, corn will encourage larger" domestic use and higher exports while rebuild ing stocks to about 1.55 billion bushels by September 1, 1995. mf , ill mm m A J.Jl****.!>?
