for All-Maryland, to be decided
on October 15 and 16. Her dam
was grand champion in Frederick
in 1992.
Judge Curtis Day of Shippens
burg, PA selected Patsy from a
field of approximately one hun
dred-fifty entrants in what he
termed a “really good, quality
show”. Nineteen classes were

Junior champion honors went
to the first place senior yearling
heifer Maryland-Garden-Spot
Nick Betty, out of United Nick-
ET, shown by Adam Stevens
for Maryland-Garden-Spot Farm.
Judge Day was impressed by the
heifer’s “clean, angular top-line”
conformation, saying she was “an
extremely quality heifer with a
beautiful rib”.
Knob View Holsteins also
walked away with the award for
junior best three females all bred
and owned by the same exhibitor.
Second place winner in this cate
gory was Len-Land Acres, fol
lowed by Mike and Elizabeth
Doody in third.

CENTERVILLE (Lancaster
Co.)—The Purina Mills, Inc.,
located on Hempland Road, was
the location for an open house for
customer appreciation. This open
house was tied in with the
announcement of the production of
the one-millionth ton of feed that
was produced at the mill and the
100-year anniversary of Purina
Mills, Inc.
“Many fanners who were here
12 years ago when we opened the
.plant are back again today,” said
Phil Jaquith, district sales mana
ger. “And many of the people who
work here grew up here. So you

The mill was opened in 1982 to
produce meal feeds, especially
poultry feed. At the time, many
new poultry operations were being
developed in the area. Later the
need for other feed became evi
dent, and two pellet mills were
added in 1986. NowMhey produce
200,000 tons of feed per year and
reached the millionth ton on Mon
day of this week at 7 a.m.

The plaint runs 24 hours per day
with two 12-hour shills, five days
per week. Saturday is clean-up and
repair-equipment day. The plant
employs 13 people, five in produc
tion, two in the office, two
mechanics, two truck drivers, and
two supervisors.
About 400 customers, pros
pects, and other guests attended
the open house. Many of these vis
itors toured the plant
