Maryland State Fair LOIS SZYMANSKI Maryland Correspondent TIMONIUM, Md. At the 1994 Maryland State Fair, six breeds of dairy cattle were shown in the 4-H/FFA division on Tues day and Wednesday. Each show was held in the Cow Palace on the Maryland State Fairgrounds. After the Tuesday show the grand champion of the Holstein show was brought into the ring to join the grand champions of each breed in the color breeds show. They included the grand cham pion; Ayrshire, Brown Swiss, Guernsey, Jersey, and Milking Shorthorn. From these six grand champions a supreme champion for the 4-H & FFA portion of the Maryland State Fair was chosen by Judge Curtis Day and Judge Kenny Krebs. The 1994 Maryland State Fair 4-H & FFA Supreme Champion is Ms Md-Dun-Loafin Moonshine, a three-year-old Holstein exhibited by Shannon Harrison of Howard County. Ms. Md.-Dun-Loafin Moonshine is out of C Logic Marijuana, a cow Shannon’s bro ther Paul and his friend bought in Canada. Sired by Bridon Astro Jet ET, the senior three-year-old cow Since 1972... LESS CREOSOTE: Wood smoke contains moisture (H,O). When the smoke comes into contact with a surface under approx. 250 degrees F the water will condense to a liquid. This liquid combined with other products in wood smoke will result in creosote. Creosote can be very dangerous when it ignites. The inside of a CHIMTEK chimney stays much war mer and greatly reduces the amount of creosote formation. In many cases CHIMTEK chimneys are completely clean after years of use. IMPROVES STOVE PERFORMANCE: The draft produced by a chimney is what pulls oxygen into the fire for combus tion. The three main factors affecting draft are the chimney’s height, size and temperature. CHIMTEK contains a great amount of a very special insulating material that is not affected by moisture saturation and will not Seattle or deter iorate. Poor draft will result in poor combusion. Poor combu sion will create more smoke. Smoke is wasted fuel. Newere ERA certified stoves are especially dependent on proper draft to perform properly. iP-ss- RnAsmnißiß 3m®!P 2388 Old Leacock Rd., Gordonville, PA 17529 717-768-3853 is co-owned by Shannon and her brother Paul. Shannon also won the fitting and showing division of the Holstein show and came in second place in the Maryland Hol stein Futurity. “She’s always been easy to work with,” Harrison said. “She’s real smooth and real contented. She’s been right at the top every where.” As the Champions in each breed 'lined up in the ring, an nouncer Lee Majesky said, “Looking at these cows and those udders is a real tribute to the breeding programs and the sup port they’ve gotten throughout the State.” His opinion was mirrored by both judges. Kenny Krebs judged the Ayrshires, Guernseys, and Milking Shorthorns. He said, “The quality here has been extremely deep. I sure appreciated the effort the kids put toward me in prepar ing their animals and presenting them to me. The quality was even better than I had anticipated.” Judge Curtis Day evaluated the Jerseys, the Brown Swiss and the ■ concrete Decke • Silage Pit Welle • Retaining Welle (717) IN-2074 Aim u m 4-HIFFA Cows Of Color Named Holsteins.
