NEWPORT (Perry Co.) Ken
and Jane Benner, Santee Acres,
Millerstown, exhibited the grand
champion Holstein cow during
competition.
The top-placed 4-year-old, San
tee-Acres Marvel Velvet, walked
away with the champion honors,
while an aged cow, My-Kinda
Starwars Nelly-ET, owned by
James and Irene Osborne, was
named reserve champion Holstein
honors by judge David Hill, a
dairyman from Shippensburg.
4-H dairy champions included
Amanda Myers, Millerstown,
showing the grand champion 4-H
animal and Abby Dum, Landis
burg, showing the reserve cham
pion 4-H animal. Joe Haas, Ickes
burg, exhibited the senior cham
pion dairy animal.

Pennsylvania Holstein
Association has
announced that it is
coordinating a state
Junior Holstein Herd to
represent the state at the
Grand National Junior
Holstein Show, in
Louisville, Ky., on Nov.
5.
Deadline for submit
ting an animal for con
sideration is Oct. 3.
The invitation to app
ly to join the state herd is
open to any Pa. Junior
Holstein members inter
ested in going to
Louisville.
There are four basic
requirements must be
met to be considered for
the event.
• The applicant must
be a member of the
Junior Holstein
Association.
• The individual must
complete and send a
participation applica
tion to the Pa. Holstein
by the Oct. 3 deadline.
• The individual must
attend the Grand
National Junior Show
on Nov. 5 and show his,
or her, own animal.
• The individual must
also show the animal in
the 1994 Eastern
National Holstein
Show, scheduled for
Thursday Sept. 29 at the
stale Farm Show Com
plex in Harrisburg, as
part of the Pa. All-
American Dairy Show.

EAA Launches Phase II
Of Egg Producer Program
ANDOVER, Mass. “The un
holy trinity food safety, en
vironmental protection, animal
welfare pose major challenges
for the egg industry. By taking a
positive approach, however, we
may be able to turn these chal
lenges into opportunity to increase
our customers’ confidence in the
egg production process,” said Mac
McLaurin (President, Egg Asso
ciation of America) in a speech
before participants of the New
England Poultry Association’s
management conference.
The program’s framework is for
