Shoot Will Benefit Hungry ELIZABETHTOWN (Lancas ter Co.) —Proceeds from the First Benefit Shoot for the Hungry, sponsored by Jefferson Sports men’s Association of Codorus, will help put meat on tables of hungry families in central Penn sylvania. The fundraiser, scheduled for September 18, will feature food, archery target shoots, trap shoots and novelty shoots and more. Ac tivities will take place at the 120-acre Sportsmen’s Club, south of Jefferson, on Sportsmen’s Club Road. Any profits realized from the shoot will be shared by the spon sors of two venison sharing pro jects: Hunters Harvestshare of Maryland and Pennsylvania’s pro gram, “Hunters Sharing the Har vest” “With this extra support, we will be able to inform more hunt ers about the program and encour age them to share their venison,” said Kenneth Brandt, executive president of Pennsylvanians for the Responsible Use of Animals (PRUA), the group which organ ized the Pennsylvania venison sharing project in 1990. Last year, “Hunters Sharing the Harvest,” with the assistance of meat processors and food banks, collected and distributed more than 70,000 pounds of deer meat to hungry Pennsylvanians. The 1994 Wayne County 4-H Beef Show was held recently at the fairgrounds in Honesdale. The judge for the evening was Dr. John Comerford, a professor of dairy and animal science at Penn State University and an extension beef specialist. Melissa Nebzydoski’s 1,180-pound Angus/Simmental steer was selected as the grand champion. The reserve champion steer was a Chi-angus weighing 1,290 pounds owned by Scott Lewis. Kendel Miller received champion home bred honors for her Angus steer. In the breeding show, Charlie Megivern’s 2-year-old heifer, “Samantha," was selected as the supreme champion. “DMK Ka tie,” an Angus summer yearling owned by Kendel Miller, was named the reserve supreme cham pion. All of the 4-H’ers were judged on showmanship, which is how well they control their animal and present it to the judge. Earl Mar shall was chosen as the grand champion showman.
