She wanted to name her 256-pound Hampshire cross “Dan.” “Boy, do we have a hog here,” said Henry Holloway, show judge, to the 48 exhibitors and a few hundred family and friends watch ing the Elizabethtown Fair Swine Show on Tuesday night. Holloway picked Amy’s heavy weight champion gilt, the last class of the division, as supreme market hog champion. * Holloway, a Yorkshire breeder from Darlington, Md., said the hog exhibited “pure muscle .. . with extremely broad shoulders” over the other hogs during tough competition. Amy’s hog bested the reserve champion hog, a 250-pound Hampshire/Duroc cross exhibited by Gerald Boyd that won Class 2 of-the heavyweight division and reserve heavyweight champion at the fair. The hog was obtained from the Bidner herd in Mohammed, 111. Amy, who won the county 4-H hog show championship, said she will be showing at the Manheim and Ephrata fairs in addition to the state Farm Show. She has been exhibiting in 4-H for six years and this is her first championship of any fair. Gerald, IS, son of Kerry and Deb Boyd, Ephrata, exhibited his owner-bred hog, a V* Hampshire cross, also from the heavyweight division. In the showmanship division, Tracy Bollinger won die 17-and over championship, Jamie Brown won championship of the 15-16 year olds, Blaine Brown was champion of 13-14 year olds, and Kevin Pfautz was champion in the 12-and-under division. Amy Bollinger’s 256-pound porker took the supreme champion of all champ ion livestock at the Elizabethtown Fair on Thursday night An estatic Amy clutched the hefty trophy and said it was a dream come true. It was the first supreme champ ion win for the Bollinger family who raise both pigs and sheep on their Manheim farm. Danielle, as Amy’s calls the Hampshire Cross, was purchased from Lyle Bitler of Illinois. Five judges deliberated among the champion steer, cow, sheep, goat, and hog to pronouce the swine as the most outstanding and correct for the breed. “The industry is always chang ing.
