Thanks to today’s new, leaner alternatives, hot dogs and other deli/prepared meats can continue to be as much of a staple in American lifestyle as baseball and apple pie. This message is scoring big with dietitians across the country as the result of a unique campaign jointly funded by livestock pro ducers and meat processors through the National Live Stock and Meat Board. Dietitians are an important market because they influence consumer food choices at home, in restaurants, schools, and cafeter ias. For instance, dietitians were quoted in news stories making more than 2.S billion consumer impressions in 1993. In addition, they held 73 million counseling sessions with clients that same year. The new campaign includes three full-page ads and two “appe tizer” ads appearing in rotation in the Journal of the American Diete tic Association. Since the cam paign’s kickoff in November 1993, dietitians have sent in an average of 200 responses a month requesting a free counseling kit for hot dogs, deli roast beef, or ham. The Meat Board reports that this response level is extremely strong for a dietitian campaign. Improve your options for both harvesting and marketing.
