JUST 095 instruction to the needs of the dairy farmers who have attended. To date, 400 dairy farmers have taken the course, and from their experi ence, the course material has been revised and expanded to fill the needs of almost any dairy farmer in the state. Rather than lecture, the presen ters or facilitators of Dairy MAP courses use examples of dairy farm operations for the attendees to match with their own operations. \y of Life ™ TY16060 Lancaatar Finning, Saturday, July 23,1 The farmers write their btiancss and personal otqcclivcs and fipnu lalc goals that arc specific, milMlur ablc, attainable, relevant andjsne ly. Topics cover trols, staffing, directing, and organizing. A lot of the educational process comes from the inter change among the dairy famfOrs in the workshop. Many farmers going into the classes thought they were good managers but found that there were many things they could do belter after they became aware of diffe rent possibilities. Decision making, based on objective nthcr than subjective assumptions, was anc of the great benefits cited by farmers who had taken the course. The ad hoc committee decided to support the Dairy-MAP prog ram as the method to help dairy far mers with management skills. An advisory committee of half industry people and half-producers was formed to work with Penn State personnel to further adapt the course to farmer’s needs, hire per sons to run the program, and prom ote the program to farmers with the support of the dairy industry stake holders. A finance committee was also formed to raise funds to run the program. All this effort comes from a real concern that the business climate for dairy farming in Pennsylvania has become and may continue to be of such a nature that the industry might not survive the economic pressures. If dairy farmers can’t make a living, Pennsylvania’s total agriculture industry is in trouble. And the supporting jobs that make up 20 percent of Pennsylvania’s economy arc also in jeopardy. ...A STOP & SEE OUR COMPLETE DISPLAY AT THE LEBANON FAIR n, WE SHIP |p| DAILY USED TRACTOR SALE ■A/ OFF CQ/ Tractors n /ft Listed w/ w Here Farmall A w/Cultivator Ford 5000, 60-HP, Gas JD 2555 65-HP, TSS, SGB, 1510 Hrs.
