Somerset County FFA Awards Members GAY BROWNLEE • Somerset Co. Correspondent BERLIN (Somerset Co.) Somerset County Future Farmers of America Chapters convened here for their annual award pre sentations. Some 75 guests were present Stephanie Singo, Rockwood Chapter, received the Outstanding FFA Student award from the Somerset County Pomona Grange Number 39. Singo, 17, the first female named to the honor breaks an all-male trend spanning 32 years. Her parents are Robert and Brenda Singo, Somerset Placing first in the parliamen tary procedure contest was the Berlin-Brothersvalley FFA Chap ter, which received the Floyd Dye Memorial Trophy, a rotating award. Placing second was the Somerset Co. Area Vocational Technical School (AVTS) Chapter. Creed speaking contest winner was Kristi Maul, Somerset FFA Chapter; second Heath Berkey, Berlin-Brothersvalley; and third, Jonathan Dickey, also Berlin- Brothersvalley Chapter. Conservation public speaking contest found Dave Creamer, AVTS Chapter, the winner. Sec ond was Stephanie Singo, Rock wood and third, Eric Landis, Berlin- Brothersvalley. Each received a check from the Some rset Conservation District FFA public speaking contest winner was Melissa Vought, Mey ersdale Chapter. Debbie Stahl, Somerset Chapter, was second followed by Jason Baughman, Berlin-Brothersvalley, third place. All first place winners in the agricultural skills competition received plaques donated by the Paul Wicks Insurance Co. Eric Landis, Berlin, placed first in interview category followed by Matthew Hay, Meyersdale, sec ond and Lonnie Coughenour, Ber lin, third. Tractor driving skills contest winner was Jeremy Barron, Some rset Marty Stutzman, Meyersdale, was second followed in third by Jonathan Smiley, Berlin. In ag salesmanship.
