HARRISBURG (Dauphin
Co.) Former state representa
tive Ed Arnold, of North Lebanon
Township, on Monday took over
the reigns of Pennsylvania deputy
secretary of agriculture and is to be
responsible for economic and
market development
Arnold was appointed to the
position that was previously held
by Neal Buss, who left earlier this
year.
Boyd Wolff, state secretary of
agriculture, said in a statement
“Ed has many years of experience
in agriculture. He’ll be a valuable
asset to our management team.”
The 51-year-old Arnold, a
Democrat has been active in local
politics for a number of years,
serving as a commissioner in
Lebanon County for eight years,
from 1979 to 1987, and then

been working for the agriculture

Marketing Program, and the Veg

Arnold grew up on a dairy farm
in Northern Lebanon Township
and had been in partnership with
his mother, and brother Mike
Arnold, of Arnold Acres, until sev
eral years ago.

ly live on a 100-acre form in the

same area and keep a few Holstein
dairy heifers, along with a Jersey

“I’m pleased to try to contribute
to Pennsylvania agriculture in any
way. I feel that with my back
ground in agriculture and govern
ment, I can contribute to the better
ment of Pennsylvania agriculture,”
he said Thursday in a telephone
interview.
His main four areas of concern
are to be assisting Secretary Wolff
in farmland preservation, agricul
tural development, agricultural
marketing and government
donated foods.
“My goal it to assist the secret
ary in completing what he’s really
begun,” Arnold said. “Farmland
preservation has been an aggres
sive program in the state, and I
hope to continue that for the rest of
the Casey administration.”
