Former state representa tive Ed Arnold, of North Lebanon Township, on Monday took over the reigns of Pennsylvania deputy secretary of agriculture and is to be responsible for economic and market development Arnold was appointed to the position that was previously held by Neal Buss, who left earlier this year. Boyd Wolff, state secretary of agriculture, said in a statement “Ed has many years of experience in agriculture. He’ll be a valuable asset to our management team.” The 51-year-old Arnold, a Democrat has been active in local politics for a number of years, serving as a commissioner in Lebanon County for eight years, from 1979 to 1987, and then Ag Secretary Wolff Appoints Ed Arnold Deputy served a 2-year-term in die state House ofßepresentatives until los ing a reelection bid in 1992 to cur rent Rep. Peter Zug, a Republican. Since September, Arnold has been working for the agriculture department as chief of the PDA Commodity Promotions Division. In that position, Arnold has work dl to help support die state com modity promotion boards erf direc tors, such as the ones under the Pennsylvania Dairy Promotion Program, the Pennsylvania Apple Marketing Program, and the Veg etable Marketing and Research Program. Arnold grew up on a dairy farm in Northern Lebanon Township and had been in partnership with his mother, and brother Mike Arnold, of Arnold Acres, until sev eral years ago. Ed and his wife Patricia current ly live on a 100-acre form in the TR same area and keep a few Holstein dairy heifers, along with a Jersey calf one erf their four daughters uses for a 4-H project animal. “I’m pleased to try to contribute to Pennsylvania agriculture in any way. I feel that with my back ground in agriculture and govern ment, I can contribute to the better ment of Pennsylvania agriculture,” he said Thursday in a telephone interview.
