Continual interest in her arrange ments inspired Carolyn to begin to hold open houses in her own home about four times a year. At her open houses, she has numerous arrangements displayed on the walls, table tops, and floors. The opportunity to see arrange ments in their setting helps people visualize what the arrangement might look like in their own home. Those who attend the shows may either purchase items on dis play or request a custom made design. Some bring along wallpap- « . f t r er and draperies samples, contain ers. and measurements to order coordinating arrangements. To prepare for these shows requires a lot of time and materials. About four years ago, Carolyn started working part time for a wholesale flower business doing repeat designs. Recently, the own er’s health problems resulted in the business closing down. While Carolyn contemplated buying her former employer’s bus iness or expanding her own, she is cautious to do so because she does not want to become tied down to running a business. She said, “I still need to be a mother and housewife. Doing something like this on the side brings a lot of satisfaction. It’s a nice break from everyday chores and something 1 enjoy doing.” Television: Too Much NEWARK, Del. Television, when properly used, can stimulate a child’s educational and creative activity.
