The grand finale of the three na
tional Guernsey shows was held in
Louisville, Kentucky, on Nov. 9.
Judge Lee Majeskie of Belts
ville, Maryland, served as the offi
cial for the 239 Guernseys that
passed before him in the ring.

REYNOLDSBURG, Ohio
Heather Hjetland of Topeka, Kan
sas, recently took top honors in the
senior showmanship class at the
National Junior Guernsey Show in
Louisville, Kentucky.
Barney Homback of Elizabeth
town, Kentucky, served as the
judge. Headier received a plaque
and a $lOO savings bond donated
by Dan and Loretta Mithoefer of
Silver Lake, Indiana, for her out
standing performance with her
partner, 4-year-old Veguita Czar
Roselind.
Mike Hickman of Cleveland,
Tenn., placed second in the senior
division showing his junior year
ling, Hickman Valleys Doris BT
Frank. He received a $75 savings
bond donated by Clark and Joy
Vilter of Hartland, Wisconsin.
In third was Matthew Ferguson
of Rockdale, Texas, with his
junior yearling. Golden Dew
Trusty Ilene. Matthew won a new
show halter donated by Steve and
Johnna Mills of Saluda, South
Carolina.

Grace Tops National Guernsey Show Finales
Judge Majeskie added another
show to the continual rivalry be
tween two well-known 4-year-old
cows, Wincrest Vayette Grace and
Westlyn Tom Dee. After some de
liberation, the final decision was

impressed with his first place win
ner Emilie Blough of Middlebury,
Indiana. Emilie showed her junior
calf, Brookside Perfecto Julie, and
received a plaque and a $75 sav
ings bond sponsored by Dan and
Loretta Mithoefer of Silver Lake,
Indiana.
Amanda Derr of Carey, Ohio,
placed second with her junior calf,
Mona Lous Tex Josie. She was
awarded with a $5O savings bond
by Clark and Joy Vilter of Hart
land, Wisconsin. In third was
Lucas Ayars of Mechanicsburg,
Ohio, with his senior calf. Land of
Living Smokin Melody. Steve and
Johnna Mills of Saluda, South
Carolina, donated the new show
halter Lucas received for placing
third.

chanicsburg, Ohio. She has pro
duction records over 27,000
pounds of milk in 365 days.
The reserve grand champion ti
tle went to the second place
4-year-old, “Tom Dee,” a West
lynn Emory Tom daughter owned
by the partnership of Mark Rueth,
Randy Kortus and Clark and Joy
Vilter, Hartland, Wisconsin.
“Tom Dee” did come out in the
lead at the national Guernsey
show in Madison where she was
named grand champion.
It was fitting for a royalty like
Burgess Farm Franks Princess to
be crowned with junior champion
honors, according to the American
Guernsey Association. “Princess”
is owned by Walter and Amy Re
cord of Lyme, New Hampshire,
and was also the first place junior
yearling of the show. The first
place summer yearling. Four
Winds Frank Tina owned by Clark
and Joy Vilter of Hartland, Wis
consin, was named reserve junior
champion.
In the race for the total perfor
mance award, another well-known
4-year-old cow came into the

She has production records to

at 3-06 in 305 days. “Diadora”
was also the reserve grand cham
pion of the junior show.
The total performance cow
award recognizes the cow earning
the most points based on produc
tion, placing in the show, yield de
viation, appraisal score, and bonus
points if the animal was bred by
the owner.

Newville were tied for fifth with

Dan and Loretta Mithoefer of
Silver Lake, Indiana, was named
the best uddered cow of the show.
Four Winds Farm, Hartland, Wis
consin, had the first place exhibi
tor’s herd; and Ohio won the first
place state herd banner.
The premier breeder banner
went to Marfred Farms, Saluda,
South Carolina. Bob Griggs and
Mark Erdman, Seminole. Okla
homa, took home the premier ex
hibitor banner.

Harry Fritz was recognized for
his past efforts as regional DHIA
manager and David Shenk of
RD2, Newport was introduced as
our new regional manager. Harry
retired as regional manager Nov.
1. Mike Brymesser, Boiling
Springs and Neal McCulloch,
Newville, were elected to three
year terms on the advisory com
mittee of the Cumberland local
unit of DHIA.
In other business, David Wal
ton. Carlisle who completed his
three-year term as director was re
cognized for his efforts. Mike
Brymesser will be replacing Da
vid on the advisory committee.
