It is obvious that they hold him in high regard.” Gertrude, too, is active political ly. She has served as county chair of the political education commit tee for 34 years, has worked on many candidates’ campaigns, been secretary for the Western Berks Democratic Club for the past 29 years, and served on the election board for Tulpehocken Township for 39 years. The couple reared three children and were substitute school teach ers for many years. The winner of the All Star County Award, the most presti gious county award, was the Berks County Farmers’ Association for excelling in program membership, organization, state legislative and national legislative activities, poli cy development, and insurance programs. Edward Hartman, president of the Berks organization, credited the ability of its 1,134 members to maintain the largest county mem bership in the state to the example of William and Gertrude Moore. Several hundred farmers, including 169 voting delegates, charted the course for the state wide farm organization by electing leaders and adopting public poli cies during sessions held from November 15-17. During election of officers, PFA delegates re-elected Adams Coun ty fruit grower Guy Donaldson to his fourth two-year term as vice president of the organization. State board members elected to repre sent eight of PFA’s 16 districts. Re-elected to two year terms were Curtis Kratz of Souderton, District 3; Roxy Levan of Milton, District 7; Richard Mains of Newville, District 9; Harold Shaulis Jr. of Somerset, District 11; Thomas Mcllwain of Spring Church, Dis trict 13. Newly elected to the state board are Allen Roszel of Mon trose, District 1; Milford Kinsman of Troy, District 5; and Alan Dam bach of Fombell, District IS. Delegates adopted policies on a wide range of public issues includ ing the enforcement powers of humane societies, the Department of Environmental Resources, and re-oganization of the U.S. Depart ment of Agriculture. Outstanding Young Fanner The Outstanding Young Farmer Over Thirty-Five Years Of Quality Service Award went to Daniel and Sherri Mains of Newville, Cumberland County. The Mains operate a 273-cow, 800-acre dairy farm. The couple was honored for their outstanding business and leadership accom plishments achieved before the age of 30. As winners, they will travel to American Farm Bureau’s annu- al meeting in Florida in January to participate in national Young Far mer and Rancher competition. The award included a $5OO cash merit award the Dodge Division of Chrysler Motors, and a $lOO U.S. savings bond.
