By Attending Meeting, Producers Can Leant To Stop Pseudorabies
Part 2
In A
Series
Editor’s Note: Last week,
Lancaster Farming published
the results of survey conducted
by Penn State which indicated
that swine producers were lax in
some areas of biosecurity and
overall management of pseudo
rabies. As a result, a meeting will
be held next week to help pro
ducers learn how to control
PRY, and highlight some of the
things producers can do inex
pensively to rid the virus from
their herds.

To learn more about how to control
the pseudorabies virus (PRV),
swine producers are invited to
attend a special meeting scheduled
Tuesday, November 23 at 7:30
p.m. at the Bergstrasse School.
The meeting on “Swine Health,
Profitability and Pseudorabies” is
an informational and discussion
opportunity for pork producers and
ag business, according to the Vet
erinary Science Department at
Penn State.
Abe Fisher, president of the
Pennsylvania Pork Producers
Council and PRV Eradication
Effort chairman, urges producers
to attend the meeting so “we can
learn to wipe it out across the
country.
“The only thing to do is to have
everyone work together to clean it
up at one time," said Fisher.
Speakers include Dr. Amy Nes
selrodt and Dr. Paul Pitcher, who
will discuss the current PRV situa
tion in Pennsylvania; a producer
panel to cover what is working and
what isn’t regarding PRV control;
tracking PRV and the cost of PRV,
by Dr. Bill Sischo; a feeder pig
vaccination project in Lancaster
County, by Dr. Paul Pitcher, and
Pennsylvania Pork Producer
Council and funding PRV control,
by Abe Fisher.
