Atlantic Dairy Cooperative is gearing up for its 1993 annual meeting, which will be held Nov. 18-19 at the Lancaster Host Resort and Conference Center in Lancas ter, Pa. “Cooperation in a Time of Change” is the theme of the 76th annual meeting. “Cooperation is our business,” said Robert M. Dever, secretary and general man ager. “During times of change, we call upon all members, directors and employees to work together for the continued success of the cooperative.” Atlantic’s continued success as a marketing cooperative was noted in this year’s financial per formance. A record 3.5 billion pounds of member milk was marketed, at a net margin of $5.4 million. A complete financial report is to be presented by trea surer Evan L. Fineman during the meeting. The meeting gets underway on Thursday, Nov. 18, at 9:45 a.m. with reports by Atlantic’s ofGcers and management staff. Videos featuring the operations of Holly Milk and QC Inc., Atlantic’s divi sion and subsidiary, will be shown. General Manager Dever will present his report during the after noon session, which begins at 1:20 p.m. Dever’s presentation will be followed by one from Robert Giacomini, a California dairy far mer and chairman of the National Dairy Promotion and Research Board. The annual banquet is set for Thursday night at 6:15 p.m. in the Lancaster Showroom. Don Schriver, CEO of Milk Marketing Inc., will serve as master of cere monies. The scheduled guest speaker is Dr. Ronald Willoughby. During the banquet, special rec ognition will be given to former general manager Dr. Paul E. Hand and executive secretary Terri Mil inovich. Hand and Milinovich retired from Atlantic on July 31, with a combined 54 years of service. The meeting will resume on Friday morning, Nov. 19, at? a.m. with the Young Cooperator Breakfast Program. At this time, the 1993 Agricultural Communi cator Award will be presented and the 1993 Outstanding Young Cooperator will be honored. The delegate session follows at 9 a.m. with action on the 1993 resolutions. David Wilkins of Lin coln Del., chairman of the Resolu tions Committee, will preside over COLLEGE PARK, Md. Craig S. Oliver, state director for the University of Maryland Cooperative Extension Service, announced this week the apooint ment of Nancy M. (Nan) Booth as interim associate director. Earlier this month. Dr. Oliver assumed additional duties as inter im dean for the College of Agri culture, University of Maryland at College Park. Oliver also is sche duled to become interim director of the Maryland Agricultural Experiment Station on Jan. 1. As the interim associate direc tor, Dr. Booth will serve as a member of the College of Agricul ture administrative team at the University of Maryland, assisting the dean with Extension matters. She also will provide leadership for the administration of organiza tional policies that pertain to county and regional faculty mem ben, and she will assume a leader ship role for Extension programs throughout Maryland in consulta tion with department chairper sons, county Extension directors and the Extension administrative council. Finally, she will communicate information about Extension programs to federal, state-and loc al government officials as well as various organizational leaders in consultation with the dean. Booth began her professional Extension career in Maryland in 1973 as a home economics agent in Baltimore Where she supervised a citywide Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program and chaired a staff of 20 Extension professionals and assistants. She moved to the University of Maryland at College Park in 1977 for a two-year stint as a graduate assistant in Agricultural and Extension Education, earning a Ph.D. degree in adult education in 1979. Following a two-month assign ment as an urban community edu cator in Baltimore, she became assistant director of the newly organized Energy Technical Assistance Program, serving as a ADC Gears Up For the session, which concludes the business portion of the meeting. A spouse program is planned in conjunction with the meeting. A native of Elizabeth, N.J., Booth was graduated from the UNIVERSITY PARK (Centre Co.) Harry F. Roth, General Manager of Atlantic Breeders Cooperative, was the honored recipient of the Hal F. Doran Cooperative Business Education Award at the Pennsylvania Coun cil of Cooperatives (PCC) Annual Meeting on November 2. The award recognizes people who demonstrate exceptional dedica tion and leadership to further the understanding of cooperatives in the American business enterprise system. Consisting of an engraved plaque and cash, the award was presented at the PCC recognition dinner at Penn State’s Nittany Lion Inn! Roth was chosen from a field of candidates nominated by their peers. Nominees have been involved in the Penn State Cooperative Business Education and Research Program and PCC. Selection was by the PCC/Penn State Joint Education Coordinat ing Committee. This recognition is made possible by the Hal F. Doran endowment fund, started in 1991 to honor Doran’s many years of service to the Cooperative Bus iness Education and Research Program. The award recipient is an ack- the Dutch Apple Dinner Theatre for "The Christmas Show.” The program on Friday will include presentations by Mark Laßochelle of Putting People First on animal rights/animal welfare and Ann Walsh of Action Seminars on Benedictine Academy. She holds a baccalaureate degree in secon dary education from Seton Hall University and an M.A. degree in family studies and resource eco nomics from Michigan State Uni versity in addition to her Ph.D. degree from the University of Maryland. Booth helped to coordinate “Enhancing Community Vitality,” an annual symposium during the 1980 s for Maryland’s public offi cials, agency workers and volun teer community leaders. Doran Award serves on the PCC Finance Com mittee and Program Development Committee for its director and officer training program. He is on the Boards of Directors for the Pennsylvania All-American Dairy Show and Penn State’s College of Agriculture Advisory Council. He is also a member of the Gover nor’s Partnership Board on Eco nomic Development for Pennsylvania. Roth has been General Manager of Atlantic Breeders at Lancaster since January 1. 1985. He is also Chairman of the Administrative Council of Federated Genetics, a partnership of three AI coopera tives that carries out an extensive national and international market ing program. He is a Penn State graduate with a major in dairy sci ence and began his career in the artificial breeding industry in 1957. .
