Berks Farm Women Hold 42nd Convention
The 42nd Annual Convention
of Berks County Farm Women
was held at the Berks County
Agricultur Center with 110 mem
bers and guests in attendance. The
theme was “Keep a Song in Your
Heart;”
Fem Phillipy, president, opened
the convention, with all the wom
en reading a poem followed by
singing America the Beautiful.

cess, shared with her presentation
of “An Eienstein or a Farmer.”

representing the 4-H program. Berks Farm Women raised
the money to be used toward the 4-H building program.

Arlene Witman, state president,
spoke on her “Heifer Project” and
also read a poem “Not Ours
Alone,” then presented Fern and
First Vice President Dorothy
Strieker, each with a special key.
Marie Baughman, Heifer pro
ject representative came with her
cute stuffed “Holli,” the heifer, to
the convention.
Group presidents each gave
their reports on happenings of the
past years events.

A delicious ham and stuffed
chicken breast dinner was served
by Wegman’s Caterers. The after
noon session opened by singing
“There is Singing in My Heart”
words written by Helen Schmehl
from Group #2. Tulpehocken
High School Show Choir sang un
der the direction of Byron Hart
man.
Recognition of six 80 plus
members were honored by Pres.

Community projects awards

er project - the state project this
year - indicating 100% participa
tion of Berks Co. members.
Sandra Rauenzahn was in
charge of Berks County’s quilt
raffle and the proceeds with
checks of $873 each were present
ed to Berks Co. 4-H Building
Fund and also the Salvation Army
to aid the flood victims in the mid
west.
