Lamb Championship Goes To Lisa Reiff
lie Chintz calls “visually ideal
muscled lambs from end to end."
In senior showmanship. Chintz
complimented Lisa for her
smooth, fluid manner of position
ing her sheep.
Chintz told the youth competing
in showmanship, "The object of
showmanship is for the judge to
notice your lamb. If you are con
stantly fiddling with your lamb’s
legs, I don’t notice the lamb but the
shomman.”
First place in intermediate
showmanship went to Jenny
Justin Good, left, won champion hog at the New Holland Farm Show swine show
Tuesday night. At right Is show Judge Cheryl Falrbaim.
Hoover, Schoeneck, and in the first
year showmanship division, Jason
Redmond ofPlowville placed first
Jenny, the daughter of Marty and
Lois Hoover, said that she and her
two sisters have an 18-head flock
of Hampshires and crosses. The
sisters share responsibilities,
which involves running the sheep
through hurdles two times daily.
Jenny said that she gets up at 6 a jn.
and runs with the sheep.
Jason, a member of Twin Valley
FFA and in his first year of show
ing, credits Tereasa Anspacht of
Governor Mifflin for teaching him
showmanship techniques.
Champion and reserve breeding
sheep honors went to Keith Bollin
ger who showed Cheviots. Hie
champion named Puff is an aged
ewe. The reserve was a run lamb.
Keith’s brother Jeff’s Suffolks
took reserve champion ram and
ewe. Because Jeff attends Penn
State (Berks Campus), he was not
able to show his sheep so Keith
showed both his own and his
brother’s sheep.
Keith, 14, said that he raises five
Cheviots at the family’s Ephrata
home. Keith and Jeff are brothers
to Jerry, who took top places in
breeding competition at Ephrata
and Denver Fain. Twins Jeff and
Jerry each have a flock of Suffolks.
In addition to Lisa showing the
middleweight and heavyweigth
champions in the market lamb
competition, the lightweight
champion was shown by Derick
Bollinger and the reserve by Renee
Hoover. The middleweight reserve
champion went to Randall Reiff of
Ephrata. The heavyweight reserve
went to Jason Hertzog.
Judge Glunz of Palmyra, who is
an Agway nutritionist and coordi
nator for the Maryland Sheep
Show, the largest Eastern sheep
show, said the New Holland sheep
show is an impressive group of
contestants. ’Your 4-H and FFA
leaders are on the rijfrt track with
teaching animal cleanUness and
showmanship quantities,” aba
said.
