At the Tent City location, Ephrata Young
Fanners will sell homemade soups, hot sand
wiches, and other taste-tempting treats to
keep fairgoers’ stomachs filled. The stand is
most famous for its pork chop barbecue on
Tues. evening. Proceeds from the sales sup

handicapped children. Ackley said Young
Fanners donate $l,OOO a year to the Thera
peutic Riding Club.
Although Farm Women Society 3 is an ag
related organization, its food stand is not
located in Tent City but at the Main Street
concessions. For 73 years, the Farm Women’s
stand has attracted diners to its sit-down stand
with its homemade specialties. Members start
weeks in advance of the Fair to roll out pot pie
made with 100 pounds flour, 22 dozen eggs,
and 60 pounds of potatoes. Members cook
and debone 2SO pounds of chicken for chick
en com soup, make applesauce and pepper
cabbage, shell, grind and freeze 1,100 deviled
clams and other made-from-scratch entrees.
Esther Stuber, who has helped with the
stand from the beginning, said, “We’ve done
this for so long that we have a system. It (the
work) really isn’t hard at all. We have fun
doing it”
